British Solar Renewables (BSR) is a British independent power producer specialising in the development, construction and operation of solar photovoltaic and battery energy storage projects. The company is headquartered in Shepton Mallet, Somerset, and has assets in the United Kingdom and Australia.
In July 2025, BSR reached financial close on a £345 million debt facility supporting a 609 MW portfolio of solar and co-located battery storage projects, reported as one of the largest hybrid portfolio financings in the UK renewable energy sector.[1] In July 2026, the company secured a further £130 million in mezzanine financing from French asset manager Eiffel Investment Group to support the next phase of growth across its platform.[2]
History
[edit]Originally called Solar Power Generation Limited, British Solar Renewables was incorporated in England and Wales on 15 July 2010 under company number 07315867, and commenced commercial operations in 2011.[3] The company was previously owned by Siem Europe, a subsidiary of the Norwegian investment group Siem Industries.[4]
In July 2022, ICG Infra, the infrastructure investment division of Intermediate Capital Group, acquired a majority shareholding in British Solar Renewables from Siem Europe.[4]

[edit]British Solar Renewables operates as an integrated independent power producer, originating, building, owning and operating its solar and battery storage assets. The company has projects across the United Kingdom and Australia.
Financing and commercial agreements
[edit]In July 2025, British Solar Renewables reached financial close on a £345 million senior, structured debt facility supporting a portfolio of 609 MW across twelve solar and co-located battery energy storage projects, with Lloyds Bank acting as sole structuring bank. The financing covers twelve projects expected to generate approximately 600 GWh of electricity annually.[1][5]
In July 2026, British Solar Renewables secured up to £130 million in mezzanine financing from Eiffel Investment Group, a French asset manager specialising in sustainable investments and energy transition financing. The facility, provided on a sole lender basis, is backed by approximately 700 MW of contracted solar PV and co-located battery storage assets across the UK and Australia.[2][6][7]
The company has signed long-term route-to-market agreements with the Swiss energy trader Axpo and with the Irish trading firm ElectroRoute.[8][9]
Sustainability
[edit]British Solar Renewables operates under a "Nature Protection Pledge" that commits the company to an average of 60 per cent biodiversity net gain across its solar developments, above the statutory minimum of 10 per cent introduced in England in 2024.[10] The company holds ISO 9001 (quality management), ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety) and ISO 50001 (energy management) certifications.[11]
