Brian Lyter is an American sports executive who serves as vice president of sports management for REV Entertainment. He previously served as president of Salvi Sports Enterprises and as general manager of the Gary SouthShore RailCats of the American Association of Professional Baseball.[1][2]

Lyter has also served as president of the Frontier League's board of directors and has been involved in the management and development of professional sports franchises in several leagues.[3] In 2024, he was involved in the launch of the Frontier League expansion franchise in Pearl, Mississippi, that became the Mississippi Mud Monsters.[4][5]

Early life and education

[edit]

Lyter is from Allegany, New York. He attended West Virginia University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in sport management with minors in business administration and history.[6]

Career

[edit]

Arkansas Travelers and UALR

[edit]

Lyter began his professional baseball career with the Arkansas Travelers in 2009 as a stadium operations intern. He became director of stadium operations in 2010 and worked as an account executive and merchandise manager in 2011. In 2012, he served as the club's director of food and beverage.[6]

His four seasons with the Travelers gave him experience across stadium operations, ticket sales, merchandise and food and beverage operations.[2]

After leaving the Travelers, Lyter joined the athletic department at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, where he served as assistant director of the Jack Stephens Center during the 2012–13 academic year.[7]

Gary SouthShore RailCats

[edit]

Lyter joined the Gary SouthShore RailCats in 2013 as director of sales. He was promoted to assistant general manager in 2014 and became general manager for the 2015 season.[2][6]

He served as general manager from 2015 through 2018, overseeing the club's business operations at U.S. Steel Yard in Gary, Indiana.[2] During his tenure, the RailCats competed in the American Association of Professional Baseball under manager Greg Tagert.[8]

During Lyter's tenure, the RailCats also pursued changes to the fan and stadium experience. In 2016, the club brought its concessions operation in-house and entered into new food and beverage partnerships at U.S. Steel Yard.[9] In 2018, the club and the city of Gary worked on improvements to the city-owned stadium, including playing-surface work and expanded protective netting.[10]

Salvi Sports Enterprises

[edit]

In October 2018, Lyter was promoted from RailCats general manager to president of Salvi Sports Enterprises.[2] In the new role, he was responsible for operations across the company's sports properties, which at the time included the RailCats, the Schaumburg Boomers of the Frontier League and the North Shore Navigators of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League.[2]

The Post-Tribune also reported on the management change and Lyter's transition from running the RailCats to overseeing multiple Salvi Sports franchises.[11]

As president, Lyter remained involved with the RailCats and other Salvi Sports properties. His role included oversight of front-office leadership and business operations.[6] In 2021, he announced the appointment of Anthony Giammanco as RailCats general manager after Giammanco moved from the Schaumburg Boomers organization.[12]

Frontier League leadership

[edit]

Lyter became involved in league governance through the Frontier League. By 2022, he was serving as president of the league's board of directors.[3]

In that role, Lyter represented the league in connection with a multi-year agreement with BaseballCloud and Yakkertech to collect optical tracking and performance data throughout the league. Sports Business Journal identified Lyter as the board president in its coverage of the agreement.[3]

Lyter remained listed as president of the Frontier League board of directors in the league's 2025 media guide.[13]

The league's board was responsible for governance matters during a period of expansion and growth following the Frontier League's designation as an official Major League Baseball Partner League.

Mississippi Mud Monsters

[edit]

In September 2024, the Frontier League announced an expansion franchise at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Mississippi, following the relocation of the Mississippi Braves. The club was owned by technology executive Joseph Eng, and TBH Sports & Entertainment was announced as the organization that would manage the franchise on his behalf.[4]

The following day, Lyter appeared on The Gallo Show and was identified as president of TBH Sports & Entertainment. Along with Trustmark Park project manager Jordan King, he discussed the launch of the new franchise and its public name-the-team contest.[5]

The team was initially promoted under the placeholder name "On Deck 2025." On September 27, 2024, a public vote selected Mississippi Mud Monsters over the other finalists, Mississippi Grits and Mississippi Soul Shakers.[14]

The Mud Monsters began Frontier League play in 2025.[15]

REV Entertainment

[edit]

In July 2026, Lyter was named vice president of sports management for REV Entertainment, a sports and entertainment company associated with the Texas Rangers organization.[16][17]

In the position, Lyter oversees REV's owned and managed professional sports properties, including the Kane County Cougars and Cleburne Railroaders of the American Association, the Schaumburg Boomers of the Frontier League, the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, and the New Mexico Goatheads of the ECHL.[1]

REV also lists Lyter as serving on the boards of the Frontier League, Atlantic League and ECHL.[1]

Awards and recognition

[edit]

In January 2026, the Pitch & Hit Club of Chicago selected Lyter to receive its John Dittrich Minor League Executive of the Year Award at the organization's 78th annual awards banquet.[18]
