Benard Awuko is a Ugandan information technology professional and university educator. He works in higher education and has worked in telecommunications-related fields. He has contested the Oyam County South parliamentary seat as an independent candidate in the 2021 and 2026 Ugandan general elections.

Education and academic career

Awuko studied telecommunications engineering at Kampala International University. He then worked in higher education and supervised student academic projects. A Kampala International University project report acknowledges Awuko Benard as one of the supervisors of a student project on an intelligent voice-controlled wheelchair.[1]

In September 2026, Awuko returned to Kampala International University as a Teaching Assistant in the Department of Information Technology, School of Mathematics and Computing. The university's current staff listing identifies him as a Teaching Assistant in the School of Mathematics and Computing.[2]

Political activity

Awuko contested the Oyam County South parliamentary seat as an independent candidate in the 2021 Ugandan general election. The Electoral Commission recorded him as receiving 358 votes.[3]''Daily Monitor'' subsequently reported the results of the candidates who contested the constituency, including Awuko.[4]

Awuko again contested for Oyam County South parliamentary seat in the 2026 Ugandan general election. Reports concerning an election petition arising from the election recorded that he received 455 votes.[5][6]

Published commentary

Awuko has contributed opinion articles to ''Daily Monitor'' on education and related issues. In a 2022 article, he argued for equal treatment of teachers in Uganda and identified himself as an ICT practitioner and university instructor.[7]
