Avengers: Armageddon is a American comic book crossover storyline published by Marvel Comics in June 2026, written by Chip Zdarsky. According to him, the event promises to change the face of the Avengers in a way not seen since Avengers Disassembled (2004–2005).

Publication history

Avengers: Armageddon is a crossover event published on June 3, 2026 by Marvel Comics, written by Chip Zdarsky, with art by Frank Alpizar and Delio Diaz, and colors by Frank Martin. The event features elements and concepts from the first two arcs of the 2025 ongoing Captain America comic series, showing to change the face of the Avengers in a way not seen since Avengers Disassembled (2004–2005).

Zdarsky also writes the limited series Wolverine: Weapons of Armageddon, with art by Luca Maresca, and colors by Jesus Aburtov, and debuted on February 18, 2026.

Another tie-in series is Reborn: Ultimate Impact by Chris Condon and Stefano Caselli and will feature the Origin Boxes from the Ultimate Universe (2023–2026), and their effect in the mainstream Marvel Universe.

Premise

After the events of "One World Under Doom", General Thaddeus Ross claims the leadership of Latveria for himself, forcing the Avengers to prevent a massive global conflict.

Plot

Lead-up

David Colton was a soldier who suffered with asthma since childhood, but was always felt inspired to the actions of Steve Rogers/ Captain America in World War II. Years later, when he joined a rescue mission in Latveria during a coup, Colton (under the mantle of Captain America) discovers that his team of mercenaries sent by General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross was hired to kill the hostages in order to cover up Ross' businesses with Victor von Doom / Doctor Doom. Feeling disgusted by their actions, Colton decided to kill the mercenaries in revenge, causing Rogers to fight against him, leading to Colton's defeat before they both were taken by the rescue team. While Colton was being hospitalized, Rogers decides to no longer serve General Ross and accepts the offer of joining the Avengers.

In the present, Doom dies and leaves Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic his will and testament hidden in his mask, which leaves Latveria and all of his other possessions in the hands of whoever can take care of it.

In response, many factions are competing for the country's control, including General Ross / Red Hulk and the federal government as they race through the Dungeons of Doom to claim the items within.

After traveling to Earth-6160 in order to save his baby sister Billie Morales, Miles Morales returns to Earth-616. With his memories from Earth-1610 restored, he tells Misty Knight of his plans to hide the Origin Boxes he gained from Doom of Earth-6160, which could prove to be dangerous.

In present day, Nick Fury Jr. and a re-established S.H.I.E.L.D. (now standing for Super Human Intelligence: Extra-Legal Division) sends Rogers and a new team of agents to Latveria to retrieve a mysterious weapon hidden by Doom. In Latveria, there is civil war between True Latveria, a resistance led by Marius Wolf / Salvation, and the Latverian Liberators, led by Alina von Doom. Captain America encounters a young clone of Doctor Doom. When the clone goes on the run, he encounters Red Hulk, who mistakes him for the real Doom. Sam Wilson joins the battle and helps to evacuate the clone. Captain America's body is rescued from rubble. His consciousness finds himself in Hell with Doctor Doom and a mysterious woman.

Meanwhile, James "Logan" Howlett / Wolverine is being chased by government agents, and Teri O'Barnes reveals to him that the Weapon X program is still active and is testing Tyler Torrens as a new mutant subject. Logan and O'Barnes meet David Colton, who reveals Torrens escaped from his captors. The trio is then ambushed by Frank Simpson / Nuke, an old nemesis of Logan. When the Primewarrior is defeated, Colton is badly injured; Wolverine uses one of the Origin Boxes on him to save his life.

Main plot

As Thunderbolt Ross has a gamma charger placed in their remote base with extra guards when talking to Captain Doakes, he wanders through Democracy, New America (formerly Doomstadt, Latveria) as he has the New America flag raised. Meanwhile, Bucky Barnes is by the bedside of a comatose Captain America before he is told to leave. 30 miles north of Aniana, Symkaria, Red Hulk and his Hulk Army attack a base. In New Orleans, Tony Stark meets with Rogue, who refuses to join in the conflict. Wolverine joins them and mentions that Cyclops' team is on standby. At The Pentagon, David Colton fights his way past the security guards. When he reaches the Super Soldier Program inside, the Avengers show up as Colton states that he is shutting down the Super Soldier Programs. After a skrimish with Sam Wilson and Captain America, Colton stands down when Wolverine persuades him to help them. With everyone going after Red Hulk, Iron Man leads them into battle.

Red Hulk and his Hulk Army are attacking Symkaria when the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and their allies arrive and demand that they stop. At the United Nations headquarters, Secretary-General Renati Rinari meets with the Winter Guard. As the Avengers and their allies fight the Hulk Army, David Colton lunges towards Red Hulk and manages to incapacitate him, but is stopped from killing him. The Winter Guard takes Ross's body and places him in stasis.

Subplots

Ultimate Impact: Reborn

In Earth-6160's Negative Zone, Hostilicus leads Annihilus' followers in cleansing it. On Earth-616, Miles Morales carries the Origin Boxes to Iron Man as he is ambushed by Spot. Miles is knocked down by Spot, who makes off with the Origin Boxes so that he can give it to his employer. As Miles and Spot fight, a combination of Miles' sword and Spot's powers causes a reaction with the Origin Boxes, which reach civilians Vin Lerner, Paulina, Max, Lola, and Orson Boothe. Vin ends up activating the contents of his Origin Box. In the Negative Zone, Hostilicus emerges victorious over the enemy army.

Miles swings around looking for the scattered Origin Boxes. In Staten Island, Punisher takes down a human trafficking operation. In Central Park, Max and Lola harness the Nega Bands, whose energy is detected by Hostilicus. As Punisher flees the police, he comes across two police officers being attacked. Orson Boothe is told about what happened to Paulina and is shown a video of Punisher fighting Hostilicus, who is unphased by his weapons. Boothe arrives and offers Hostilicus a deal.

Max and Lola are held prisoner in Earth-6160's Negative Zone. In Jersey City, Vin discovers his abilities when he breaks the door to the town house. At the East River, Iron Man catches an imposter as Miles arrives and informs him of what happened. At Boothe Media Offices, Orson Boothe is shown footage of Hostilicus breaking into a Stark Industries vault. Hostilicus manages to briefly fight Iron Man as Miles arrives. Escaping into the subway, Hostilicus is contacted by Boothe, who thanks him for the heist.

Captain America

Doctor Doom introduces Captain America to Veratok and learns that Captain America's body is in a coma. Meanwhile, Mephisto is told that his forces have been scouring Hell for Doom's soul. After attacking Jarnox for his incompetence, Mephisto sees in his book that a new soul is in Hell. Captain America and Doom's group enter the Gray Valley, ruled by Torvoz the Preacher. Mephisto sends his demon minion Frenzah to find Captain America.

Mephisto sends his demon underlings to bring Steve Rogers and Doom to him. At Gray Valley, Mephisto's demon underlings attack Torvoz as he is saved by Captain America, Doom, and Veratok. Torvoz takes Captain America, Doom, and Veratok into the Devil's Forge, where Captain America states to Bartand his plan to obtain the Anti-Divine sword to use on Mephisto. Red Skull rounds up the condemned souls of the Nazis. Frenzah attacks the group to get the Anti-Divine and identifies herself Doom's old girlfriend Valeria von Frazen, who Doom sacrificed in exchange for magical powers.

As Frenzah attacks Doctor Doom for ruining her life and afterlife, Captain America comes to his defense stating that he is trying to save everyone in Hell. Doom allows Frenzah to take revenge, but she refuses and defects to Captain America's side. Bartand allows the group to leave with the Anti-Divine. Captain America and Doom's group arrive at the Suffering Prisons, where they kill the jailer Kra'l. Just then, Captain America sees Red Skull's forces arriving.
