Aromas4U, Lda. is a Portuguese producer and distributor of wine, cheese and other food products, based in the parish of Estorãos in the municipality of Ponte de Lima, in the Alto Minho region of northern Portugal.[3] The company markets wines from the Vinho Verde and Douro regions under its own brand and, since 2024, operates a cheese factory, the Queijaria Aromas4U, in Ponte de Lima.[2][4] It also sells olive oil and gift hampers combining its products.[5]

History

[edit]

According to a 2019 interview with the Portuguese wine website Winelicious, the company was established in 2004, building on around twenty years of prior agricultural activity by its founders.[6] It is organised as a sociedade por quotas (private limited company).[6]

In June 2024 the company's red Aromas4U Reserva 2020, produced in São João da Pesqueira in the Douro, received a gold medal at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, held that year in Guanajuato, Mexico.[1]

In May 2023 the company acquired an existing cheese factory in Ponte de Lima, which was fully renovated over the following year with new production equipment and automation systems.[2] The Queijaria Aromas4U was officially opened on 4 September 2024 in a ceremony presided over by the mayor of Ponte de Lima, Vasco Ferraz, and its first two cheeses went on sale in local supermarkets in October 2024.[7][4]

In May 2026 the Municipality of Ponte de Lima chose the cheese factory as the first stop of its Roteiro Empresarial Lima Empreende, a programme of company visits for new entrepreneurs funded under Portugal's Recovery and Resilience Plan.[3][8][9]

Operations

[edit]

Wine

[edit]

Aromas4U produces wine in two Portuguese wine regions:[6]

In 2019 the company reported about 56 hectares of vineyard across the two regions.[6] Its range includes white, red and sparkling wines sold under the Aromas4U name, such as the Escolha, Colheita, Reserva and Edição Limitada Alvarinho labels.[10] The gold-medal Reserva 2020 is a blend of about 60% Touriga Nacional and 20% Tinta Roriz, aged in French and American oak, with a limited production of 8,000 bottles.[1]

Cheese

[edit]

The Queijaria Aromas4U makes cow's-milk cheeses from milk collected daily from farmers in the Lima valley through the dairy cooperative Leite do Campo, and has an on-site tasting room.[2] Its first products were Queijo 4, a flamengo-style cheese matured for four weeks, whose name refers among other things to Ponte de Lima's town charter of 4 March 1125; and Miquinhas, a soft, buttery cheese named in honour of the owners' family matriarch.[7]

Other products and markets

[edit]

The company also sells extra-virgin olive oil from the Mirandela area and cheeses from other Portuguese regions, and offers gift hampers (cabazes) combining its products.[6][5] In 2019 around 60% of its sales were exports, to markets including Canada, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, England and Ireland.[6] In 2024 its export markets for the Reserva 2020 included England, Scotland, Estonia, Canada, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Germany and the Netherlands.[1]
