Arash Dabestani is a writer, podcaster, and instructor of creative writing workshops based in New York City. He was born on February 23, 1987. He grew up in Tehran, Iran, and immigrated to the United States in 2013. He completed his bachelor's degree, majoring in Persian Literature and English Literature, at the University of California, Berkeley. He subsequently earned a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Writing from New York University. He currently lives in Brooklyn, New York, with his wife, Tamila Dabestani.[1]
Dabestani's professional work focuses primarily on contemporary literature, narrative theory, and the teaching of creative writing. As an instructor, he has taught numerous online and recurring creative writing workshops, with a particular emphasis on topics such as narrative mechanics, plot structure, and character development. In addition to teaching and writing, Dabestani is an active podcaster and produces and hosts the podcast Radio Nebeshteh. He has collaborated with Iran Academia as a publisher and presenter.[2] He has delivered talks on his work at institutions including the Zhaleh Esfahani Foundation.[3] His short stories have been published in respected English-language literary journals.
Dabestani's English short stories include "The Glue" (Berkeley Fiction Review) and "Who Can I Dance With?" (Guernica).[4][5]
