Alexandre Allard (born 1 October 1968 in Washington, D.C.) is a French-American entrepreneur and creator. He is best known for founding and selling the consumer-data company Consodata and for the reinvention of the Royal Monceau hotel in Paris. In Brazil, he is the developer of Cidade Matarazzo, an urban-regeneration and heritage-restoration project that, since the opening of the Rosewood São Paulo hotel in 2022, has brought together hospitality, culture, gastronomy, fashion and regenerative economy, presented from 2024 under the Mata São Paulo brand. He is also co-founder of AYA Earth Partners, an ecosystem dedicated to the low-carbon economy. He is the founder and controlling shareholder of Mata Holding, which in 2026 entered into a partnership with the French hospitality group Accor to develop, under the Mata brand, a hospitality platform in Brazil and abroad, with projects underway in Rio de Janeiro and Salvador.

Consodata

In 1994, Allard partnered with Marc Hénon to develop a database shared by advertisers, which gave rise to Consodata. The company became one of the world's largest consumer databases and was floated on the Paris stock exchange in 1999. In 2000, it was acquired by the Italian group Telecom Italia for around 500 million euros.

Real estate projects and the Royal Monceau

From the 2000s onwards, Allard focused on the restoration of historic buildings in cities such as Paris, Rome, London, Miami and Beijing. In June 2007, he acquired the Royal Monceau hotel in Paris, then in financial difficulty. The renovation was led by designer Philippe Starck, and the hotel reopened in 2010, receiving industry distinctions, including recognition as the best hotel in France by TripAdvisor.

In 2011, alongside Jean Nouvel, he took part in a bid to redevelop the Hôtel de la Marine in Paris, under the name "La Royale". Following controversy over the building's historic character, then-President Nicolas Sarkozy suspended the tender, and a commission recommended keeping the property under public management.

Fashion and creative economy

In 2005, Allard became a partner in the haute-couture house Balmain, joining Alain Hivelin in the brand's repositioning, a process for which he is frequently credited in the fashion press.

In 2009, he acquired the Parisian brand Faith Connexion. There he proposed what he called an "open-source" model, in which a collective of designers signed collections outside the traditional seasonal calendar. The brand developed collaborations, including a capsule collection with Brazilian model Isabeli Fontana in 2013 and a menswear line, and in 2014 launched a business model named Circle of Faith, intended to rebalance the share between the brand and its designers.

Allard was also associated with the architecture magazine L'Architecture d'Aujourd'hui, working alongside Jean Nouvel and François Fontes.

Cidade Matarazzo and Mata São Paulo

Cidade Matarazzo is described as the largest private urban-regeneration and heritage-restoration project in Brazil. Allard conceives of it as a model of a regenerative city and a reference for the future of urban centres, proposing to turn a formerly abandoned area into a platform of experiences that combines heritage preservation, nature, craftsmanship, creativity and community. Its stated purpose is to reconnect people with nature and to promote the ethical and aesthetic values of the Global South, with an emphasis on curation as a method. The environmental dimension is embodied in the Mata Atlântica Tower, presented as the largest green vertical structure in Brazil, and in AYA Earth Partners, an ecosystem dedicated to accelerating the low-carbon economy.

The site now occupied by the complex was home to the Umberto I Hospital, known as the Matarazzo Hospital, and the Condessa Filomena Matarazzo Maternity Hospital, built in 1904 and 1943 and conceived by Count Francesco Matarazzo. Decommissioned in 1993, the listed buildings remained abandoned for about two decades. In 2011, Allard acquired the property, for around R$117 million, and began restoring and developing the complex, on a site of roughly 30,000 m² near Avenida Paulista. International trade publications have described the initiative as the largest private investment ever made in a listed heritage complex in Brazil, with an estimated outlay of around 470 million euros.

Partnership with Accor and expansion

In June 2026, Mata Holding, Allard's investment company, entered into a partnership with the French hospitality group Accor to accelerate the development of the Mata hospitality and leisure platform in Brazil and abroad. According to the financial press, the deal involved an investment of around 50 million euros by Accor, corresponding to a minority stake estimated at 20% to 24% of the holding's capital, with the French group taking over operations and Allard focusing on project development.

The platform uses the São Paulo complex as its initial asset and model, and plans new developments in other cities. In Rio de Janeiro, Mata Maravilha is planned for the port area, with four hotels.

In Salvador, as part of the Mata Pelourinho project, Mata Holding took on the restoration of the Palácio Rio Branco, a listed building on Praça Thomé de Souza in the historic centre, following the concession of the property by the Bahia state government. The service order was signed on 1 June 2026 by the state tourism secretariat, Mata Holding and the André Guimarães construction company. The development, named Hotel Allard and announced as a six-star property, is to include 90 suites (27 of them in the historic building), an investment of R$250 million and the reopening of the palace to public visits, with a 36-month contractual term.
