[edit]- February 15 – The Colorado Woman Suffrage Association holds its annual convention in Denver, electing Dr. Alida Avery as president to organize the state's first voting rights campaign under the new constitution.[1]
- Spring – Geologist and schoolteacher Arthur Lakes discovers massive fossilized bones while hiking near Morrison, effectively launching Colorado's central role in the historic "Bone Wars" and yielding the global discovery of dinosaurs like the Stegosaurus and Allosaurus.[2]
- August 15 – A mass meeting is held in Denver to formally establish an executive campaign committee to advocate for the upcoming women's suffrage referendum.[3]
- September 11 – Renowned national suffragist Susan B. Anthony arrives via railroad in Granada, embarking on a grueling, month-long statewide speaking tour to canvas mining camps and towns for voting rights.[4]
- October 1 – A massive final campaign rally takes place in Denver, featuring major keynote speeches from national figures Lucy Stone and Margaret W. Campbell.[3]
- October 2 – The statewide referendum to grant full voting rights to women is overwhelmingly defeated by Colorado's all-male electorate by a roughly 2-to-1 margin, with 6,612 votes in favor to 14,053 against.[5]
