Anne Alvergue is an American film editor and filmmaker. She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Film for the Netflix documentary The Martha Mitchell Effect, with Beth Levison.[1]
Life
[edit]Alvergue received her bachelor's degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and her master's degree in documentary film from Stanford University.[2] Her debut short film, Nightlight , won awards at both the Humboldt International Film Festival and the Black Maria Film and Video Festival.
Anne Alvergue is primarily a documentary filmmaker and works as an editor in the greater New York area. Her film editing credits include Love, Gilda (2018), Bully. Coward. Victim: The Story of Roy Cohn (2019), The Business of Birth Control (2021), and Body Parts (2022). In the documentary Love, Gilda, actress and comedian Gilda Radner looks back on and reflects on aspects of her life and career. The film was nominated for two Primetime Emmy Awards . Alvergue received a Gold Telly and a Silver Telly Award for her work on this film. Bully. Coward. Victim: The Story of Roy Cohn is also a documentary. This time, it examines the life and work of Roy Cohn , a powerful New York real estate developer and lawyer during the McCarthy era . Alvergue received two award nominations for her work on this film.[3]
The documentary "The Business of Birth Control", edited by Alvergue , documented the side effects associated with taking birth control pills. "Body Parts" another documentary,which Alvergue edited, which examined how naked female bodies are hypersexualized, attacked, and exploited in Hollywood , both on screen and elsewhere.[4]
Alvergue received an Oscar nomination, along with Beth Levison, for the 2022 Netflix documentary "The Martha Mitchell Effect" . This film tells the story of Martha Mitchell , the wife of Attorney General John N. Mitchell in the Richard Nixon administration, who was silenced despite, or perhaps because of, the fact that her allegations against Nixon were proven true during the Watergate scandal .[5][6][7]
She is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.[8]
