Wikimedia Morocco User Group, also known as Wikimedia Morocco or Wikimedia MA User Group, is a Wikimedia user group dedicated to supporting contributors to Wikimedia projects in Morocco, promoting free knowledge, and developing content related to Morocco, its culture, history, heritage, and languages.
The group was officially recognized on 6 October 2015. It was founded by Reda Benkhadra, Anass Sedrati, and Ismael Zniber with the aim of bringing together Moroccan Wikimedia contributors and supporting their activities and initiatives.
The group is active across several Wikimedia projects, including the Arabic Wikipedia, Moroccan Arabic Wikipedia, Amazigh-language Wikimedia projects, Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata, and Wikisource. It organizes editing campaigns, photography contests, training workshops, educational programs, technical projects, and documentation activities across Morocco.
Vision, mission and objectives

[edit]Wikimedia Morocco User Group seeks to build an active and sustainable Moroccan community within the Wikimedia movement and to make knowledge related to Morocco freely accessible to everyone.
The group also aims to support content in the languages used in Morocco, expand Moroccan participation in the free knowledge movement, reduce knowledge, linguistic and geographical gaps, and encourage people from different backgrounds to contribute to open knowledge.
Mission
[edit]The group works to promote, improve, and develop free knowledge and free culture by supporting the creation and improvement of encyclopedic content, books, structured data, photographs, documents, and educational resources.
It also seeks to empower volunteers, local communities, educational institutions, cultural organizations, and researchers to use and contribute to Wikimedia projects.
Objectives

[edit]- Local content: Creating and improving content related to Morocco, including its history, culture, heritage, geography, education, sciences, economy, sports, and notable people.
- Languages of Morocco: Supporting Wikimedia content in Arabic, Moroccan Arabic, Amazigh languages, and other languages used in Morocco.
- Documenting Morocco: Encouraging the upload of freely licensed photographs and documents about Moroccan cities, villages, landmarks, natural heritage, and cultural heritage to Wikimedia Commons.
- Open data: Supporting the development of Moroccan-related data on Wikidata and connecting it with other Wikimedia projects.
Community development

- Supporting volunteers: Providing training, guidance, resources, and opportunities for Wikimedia contributors.

- Encouraging participation: Promoting the participation of young people, students, teachers, researchers, and cultural and educational institutions.
Education and digital literacy

Activities and projects

[edit]The group organizes and participates in editing competitions and campaigns across several Wikimedia projects. These activities aim to improve Moroccan, Arab, African, and global content while encouraging new contributors to join Wikimedia projects.
The group participates in thematic campaigns related to culture, literature, science, women, Moroccan cities, heritage, and other areas of knowledge.

Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom
[edit]Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom is one of the educational programs supported by Wikimedia Morocco User Group.
The program aims to strengthen media and information literacy among teachers and learners, helping them understand how knowledge is created on Wikipedia, how to evaluate sources and online information, and how to use Wikipedia responsibly in education.
The group has organized training sessions and workshops for educators and participants in different regions of Morocco.
Technical activities
[edit]Wikimedia Morocco User Group works to develop technical capacities within the Moroccan Wikimedia community and encourage the use of tools and automation across Wikimedia projects.

- Working with Wikidata and structured data

- Developing templates and Lua modules
- Training contributors to use Toolforge

Community meetings
