Cocoabot

[edit]
  • Code letter: G

Just a few minutes ago, Cocoabot went insane and did some very strange un-botlike edits. (Special:Contributions/Cocoabot). This is definitely not what the creator intended the bot to do (Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/cocoabot). Ryulong suggested over IRC that the account might have been compromised, because no bot should be programmed to link to the pages that it did. (See contributions). So, the question remains: Was this account compromised, or was it a very serious programming error? Sean William 04:19, 19 May 2007 (UTC)reply

Someone still needs to work out all the implications of this, but here is the technical result: Cocoabot is not Cocoaguy. It was never created or operated by him. Note that Cocoaguy begins the bot request on May 16 , days before the account creation. No edit of his ever indicates that the account created on May 18 was created by him. Instead, it seems clear to me that Salad Days (talk · contribs) created the Cocoabot account himself and promptly began the vandalism. The IP evidence for this is very conclusive.
