Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Wikipedia:RFP)
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection).

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:ProtectedPages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to remove obvious vandalism.

Request addition of protection to a page, or increasing the current protection level

Request removal of protection from a page, or reducing the current protection level

Request a specific edit be made to a protected page

Request the non-urgent protection of multiple pages that do not require immediate administrator attention

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request addition of protection to a page, or increasing the current protection level

Place requests for protection increases at the BOTTOM of this section. If you cannot find your request, check the archive of requests or the page history. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – As has repeatedly been the case, the page is under attack by a group of temp accounts that change sourced information (specifically plug listings) without sources and without comment, and ignore all invitations to discuss. , , , , .

Since the page has been haunted by similar problems for years, I suggest indefinite semi-protection. Gawaon (talk) 07:24, 1 October 2026 (UTC)reply

Note that this may be related to the long-term SPI case of ImprovisedAlphorn7281, whose socks have repeatedly shown similar editing patterns on that page. Gawaon (talk) 07:35, 1 October 2026 (UTC)reply

Indefinite extended confirmed protection: Arbitration enforcement – As per WP:ECRCASTE. Ekdalian (talk) 08:28, 1 October 2026 (UTC)reply

Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 00:02, 2 October 2026 (UTC)reply

Reason: Page was autoconfimred protected in June after I made a request about the near-constant flurry of temporary accounts who leave WP:FORUM comments, usually in Hindi (such as this recent edit). The protection expired in September, and the storm has started up again. I think a (more?) permanent protection is needed, because otherwise, it's just adding more busy work to have to revert these. wound theology◈ 04:12, 2 October 2026 (UTC)reply

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – Kamen rider. Toketaatalk 12:24, 2 October 2026 (UTC)reply

On second thought... Indefinite. Toketaatalk 15:03, 2 October 2026 (UTC)reply

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – Kamen rider. Toketaatalk 12:24, 2 October 2026 (UTC)reply

Reason: Persistent disruption and unexplained removal of sourced content. The page has suffered 2 instances of blanking/vandalism this year in February and October, including a disruptive blanking of the lead paragraph. Requesting semi-protection to secure the article. MISTERSIMONI (talk) 13:51, 2 October 2026 (UTC)reply

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Only 1 instance of vandalism in the last several months. Re-request if disruption continues. Curbon7 (talk) 06:19, 3 October 2026 (UTC)reply

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Segaton (talk) 14:24, 2 October 2026 (UTC)reply

Semi-protected until 1 March 2027. Curbon7 (talk) 07:24, 3 October 2026 (UTC)reply

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – trial unprotected 1 year ago, I would say that the trial failed. Toketaatalk 14:26, 2 October 2026 (UTC)reply

(Non-administrator comment) +1 PCP also didn't work here (virtually nothing accepted). Given the nature, frequency and history of the vandalism, this is probably a perennial school kid target and therefore better off protected for good. Entranced98 (talk) 14:57, 2 October 2026 (UTC)reply
Semi-protected for a period of 45 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Yaris678 (talk) 07:31, 3 October 2026 (UTC)reply

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – There's a lot of temporary accounts adding random content to the page. – The Grid (talk) 14:27, 2 October 2026 (UTC)reply

Reason: This page has been subject to disruption multiple times today. It was briefly hijacked, and two subsequent edits by another user have had to be suppressed.

Would semi-protection (or any edit protection at all) be appropriate for this page? – MrPersonHumanGuy (talk) 16:57, 2 October 2026 (UTC)reply

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – LTA Lam312321321 restoring content from TAs and new accounts. Belbury (talk) 17:12, 2 October 2026 (UTC)reply

Semi-protected for a period of 10 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Curbon7 (talk) 06:56, 3 October 2026 (UTC)reply

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Curbon7 (talk) 06:57, 3 October 2026 (UTC)reply

Pending changes–protected for a period of 6 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Escalating PC protection. Curbon7 (talk) 06:59, 3 October 2026 (UTC)reply

Reason: Persistent vandalism - all recent TA edits are unconstructive ~2026-53094-37 (talk) 20:25, 2 October 2026 (UTC)reply

Also, worth noting Ida was protected for a full year back in 2023. ~2026-53094-37 (talk) 20:25, 2 October 2026 (UTC)reply
Semi-protected for a period of 1 year, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. I am hesitent to indefinitely protect in this case considering the generally low number of edits; let's see if another year sorts this out. Curbon7 (talk) 07:02, 3 October 2026 (UTC)reply

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – This page has been heavily contested for months/years and is controversial. Recent temp account edits have removed large amounts of text and engaged in edit wars. This is not the first time this has happened. GeogSage (⚔Chat?⚔) 20:29, 2 October 2026 (UTC)reply

lets semi indefinitely. Specifically to the article long history of contention not only that it falls under Wikipedia:Contentious topics. Best we let experience editors work out a consensus over having meat puppets and anonymous editors always causing a problem. Non auto confirmed editors are free to make edit requests. Time the community wrangles up this article.Moxy🍁 02:05, 3 October 2026 (UTC)reply
Semi-protected indefinitely. Curbon7 (talk) 07:05, 3 October 2026 (UTC)reply

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. --Another Believer (Talk) 21:06, 2 October 2026 (UTC)reply

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request removal of protection from a page, or reducing the current protection level

Indefinite pending changes: Persistent vandalism – Requesting reduction in protection to pending changes, page was inf semi-protected over 3 years ago. The page also desperately needs updates and allowing more people to submit edits may help solve this. Szxq (talk) 05:21, 25 September 2026 (UTC)reply

@Ferret: Szxq (talk) 05:25, 25 September 2026 (UTC)reply
I'd say no, but I'd leave it up to Ferret. Anyone can still make an edit request. The article consistently averages 1000 page views per day for all of 2026 so far. And it appears to be actively edited. The page history includes a high proportion of reverted edits prior to protection, and pending-change protection would not change that situation if the same activity resumes, edits would still need reversion, so such protection would simply become a burden on the community as if it was unprotected. ~Anachronist (who / me) (talk) 05:52, 3 October 2026 (UTC)reply

Change “Collapse of the June ceasefire (July)” to “Collapse of the June ceasefire (20 June - 31 July)” because the June ceasefire ended on 19 June, not 30 June. ~2026-47054-03 (talk) 00:02, 23 September 2026 (UTC)reply

I wanted to add a section to the Greek alphabet talk page requesting the addition of a list of three-letter Greek letter name abbreviations, which are used in astronomical software (example: Stellarium) and websites (example: SIMBAD). But the talk page can't be edited. I no longer attempt to edit article pages myself because the Wikipedia rules are too complex for me, so now I just request changes and let the experts handle it.
