| This page in a nutshell: The two-tier accountability system for administrators. |

After successful elections or requests,[a] administrators become temporarily immune to admin recall: an accountability process that when successful requires admins to make a re-request for adminship in order to retain the tools. This form of invincibility is not full proof, it endures for 6–12 months, dependent on the manner of acquisition.[b]
The phenomenon does not prevent an admin being de-sysoped via Arbitration Committee review or community ban and is independent from the mushroom effect. Admins are able to revoke their 12-month invincibility by subscribing to Administrators open to recall and do so by determining their own criteria (or lack of) for such a process. Another manner in which immunity to recall in acquired, but instead for 6 months, is after a failed recall petition.
Advocates of this feature cite the concern for double jeopardy and note that this immunity is incomplete as the arbitration process remains an alternative. Editors supporting this feature have also argued that a year remains excessive when faced with "egregious issues", by allowing problems to occur for too long.[b] This has resulted in a two-tier system for admin accountability: those with immunity to the recall process and those who are eligible.
