VAST Data is a privately owned data storage company. It is a supplier of computer storage, and provides storage solutions optimized for artificial intelligence workloads such as deep learning. The company is a supplier for many AI data centers.[2][3][4][5][6]
History
[edit]VAST Data was founded in January 2016 by Renen Hallak, former head of R&D at XtremIO,[7][8] Shachar Fienblit, Jeff Denworth, Alon Horev, and Michael Wing.[9][10][10][11]
In 2019, VAST emerged from stealth mode with $80 million in funding and launched its data storage software.[12][9] After the launch of ChatGPT in late 2022 and during the subsequent AI boom, VAST is a major storage supplier to AI data centers. VAST reported a revenue of $5 billion in 2025.[13]
VAST ranked No. 3 on the 2023 Financial Times list of The Americas' Fastest-Growing Companies.[14][15] It is part of the 2024 Forbes Cloud 100 list,[1] the 2025 CNBC Disruptor 50[16] and Forbes AI 50.[17][18] As of 2026, the company claimed to have a private valuation at $30 billion, based on the fact that it received $1 billion in that year's series F funding.[19][20][21]
The company's proprietary firmware and device drivers are optimized for machine learning applications, allowing for improved I/O performance and wear leveling, thus increasing the life span of the underlying flash memory-based solid-state drives (SSDs).[13]
The platform can be deployed in AI data centers, public clouds, and edge computing environments, and is offered as a subscription‑based service.[clarification needed][22]
Market position and partnerships
[edit]VAST Data provides storage infrastructure to neoclouds, which GPU-intensive computing services in competition with hyperscale cloud providers.[13][23] Its customers include:
- CoreWeave – $1.17 billion commercial agreement, November 2025.[13]
- Sharon AI – Deployed 600 petabytes of VAST's storages across its AI data centers, June 2026.[24][25]
- Mistral AI – Mistral's Nvidia GB300 NVL72 systems use VAST storage products.[26]
- Megaport[27]
