The Frisc is a local news nonprofit that covers San Francisco.[2] Its name refers to a controversial nickname of San Francisco.[1][3] The site launched with a focus on housing policy while also covering issues (and solutions) around city government, homelessness, street safety, transit, education and the environment.[2][3] The site also includes guides for things to do, particularly in nature in San Francisco.[3] The Frisc has six regular contributors, including some just starting their career,[3] and published three or more stories a week.[2] The outlet relies on donations and will publish its last article in late 2026.[3]
Awards
[edit]The San Francisco Press Club awarded The Frisc first-place for videography in 2023.[4]
The Society of Professional Journalists NorCal chapter gave two stories by The Frisc awards in 2025.[5][2]
