Masculine for Male, Feminine for Female; Need Help Editing the Template

[edit]

This template consistently refers to "male" and "female" versions of titles. Male and female are identifiers of biological sex, not of grammatical gender, and should be replaced by masculine and feminine, respectively, in the template. I have tried to do that, but evidently I don't know how, as my changes to the template do not seem to affect the wording the template produces on Wiki pages. If anybody can help me make these changes effectively, I'll be grateful. J. D. Crutchfield | Talk 21:14, 11 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Why is "abolition" not propagating?

[edit]

I recently changed the main template message, which was quickly picked up by (i.e. propagated to) the individual examples. However, when I soon changed "abolishing" to "abolition" that change did not propagate. Why is that? Dhtwiki (talk) 00:44, 23 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Austrian titles

[edit]

I've seen this template used for an Austrian person, Ludwig Mises. However, this template is not fit for use for Austrians. Why? The note is wrong. In Austria titles of nobility were banned outright in 1919 and didn't become part of the surname.

Perhaps we need a separate template for Austrians. Or perhaps a warning here to not use this template for Austrians. Joe vom Titan (talk) 20:34, 19 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

This issue affects like 170 articles. That's the number of articles that transclude the template in Category:Austrian people. Joe vom Titan (talk) 20:44, 19 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
The lengthy note about usage after 1919 also reads strange for persons who died before 1919 such as Karl Ernst von Baer (German) or Ludwig Ritter von Köchel (Austrian). Joe vom Titan (talk) 20:53, 19 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Titles preceded the full name when given?

[edit]

The template states that before 1919 "titles preceded the full name when given (Graf Helmuth James von Moltke)". Do we have a reliable source stating this rule? A spot check of the first couple articles in What links here shows that they don't follow this rule even when the subject died before 1919. Joe vom Titan (talk) 22:05, 19 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
