This template should always be substituted – use { { subst:Undated } } . Any accidental transclusions will be automatically substituted by a bot.
The {{undated}} template is used to label undated comments in a conversation. Dating of comments is not strictly required, but is necessary for the WP:REPLYTOOL and auto-archiving bots to work correctly.
{{subst:undated|date}}
Date Datestamp for comment
Time and date of undated comments can be found on the history page.
Timezone adjustment [ edit ]
Note that talk page times should always be in UTC . If timezone offset in your preferences is not 00:00, you'll have to adjust the time taken from history page to UTC. For example:
your offset is -04:00
you copy "01:55, 26 August 2025 " from history page
you put {{subst:undated|05:55, 26 August 2025 (UTC)}}
If this is too difficult to figure out, or you are in a hurry, then leave out the time, and only put in the date.
If you frequently use this template, or otherwise refer to UTC, you could consider setting your local time in the preferences to UTC.
With time
Typing {{subst:undated|01:55, 26 August 2025 (UTC)}} will yield:
— Preceding undated comment added 01:55, 26 August 2025 (UTC)
Without time
Typing {{subst:undated|26 August 2025 }} will yield:
— Preceding undated comment added 26 August 2025 (UTC)
The template is mostly used by SineBot .
Substitution of the template produces code with an equals sign in class="autosigned". This means the template cannot be used inside an unnamed parameter of another template. The equals sign would be interpreted as a parameter assignment in the other template per Help:Template#Equals . The other template can add 1=, 2=, and so on in front of all its unnamed parameters to avoid the problem.
Template parameters
This template prefers inline formatting of parameters.
