From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Usage

[edit]

A way to cite the Native Plant Database (formerly called Native Plant Identification Network or NPIN) published by the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.

It can be used without any parameters except for |access-date=, in which case it will try to retrieve the taxon name and USDA PLANTS ID from Wikidata:

  • {{NPIN}} or {{NPIN|access-date=4 August 2026}}

Or it works with positional parameters

  • {{NPIN|USDA symbol|genus species|access-date=4 August 2026}}
  • {{NPIN|USDA symbol|genus species}}

or named parameters:

  • {{NPIN|code=USDA symbol|taxon=genus species|access-date=4 August 2026}}
  • {{NPIN|code=USDA symbol|taxon=genus species}}

Parameters

[edit]
|1=, |code=
USDA symbol for the taxon (used in the USDA PLANTS database), used to create the URL.
|2=, |taxon=
The species. Used as link text, if |link= is not set.
|link=1
If not empty, the template creates a link suitable for an external links section where all links pertain to the same species.
|access-date=
As in other citation templates.

Example

[edit]

{{NPIN|CAEB2|Carex eburnea|access-date=4 August 2026}}

or

{{NPIN|code=CAEB2|taxon=Carex eburnea|access-date=4 August 2026}}

yields

"Carex eburnea". Native Plant Database. Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, University of Texas at Austin. Retrieved 4 August 2026.
