This template is rated as beta. It is considered ready for widespread use, but as it is still relatively new, it should be applied with some caution to ensure results are as expected.
This template produces the name of the incumbent political leader of a sovereign state, naming either the current head of state or head of government as specified.
Usage
Parameters
|1= – set the first unnamed parameter to the name of a country or an ISO 3166-1 code.
|2= – set the second unnamed parameter to head of state, head of government, or a title, eg. president, monarch, or prime minister.
|link= – (optional) set to |link=no to unlink the name; useful for avoiding overlinking.
|format= – (optional) use to change the format of the displayed name:
— set to |format=invert to display the name in the format Last-Name(s), First-Name(s). Where names already use Eastern name order according to cultural convention, |format=invert will be identical to the default format (not inverted, no comma).
— set to |format=short to display the appropriate short form of the name. Only the appropriate portion of the full name will be displayed, as determined by Module:Current leader/data.
The articles for some leaders have titles with parenthetical or natural disambiguation. These are automatically accounted for by Module:Current leader, which automatically removes disambiguating terms from the displayed name of a political leader in these way:
If a title contains parentheses, the parentheses and any text between them is removed from the displayed name.
This allow the template to be used even when the link needs to be piped to display only a political leader's name, so that links do not need to be piped manually in cases where an article title contains a disambiguator.
Exceptions
The article titles of popes usually include the title "Pope", as in Pope Leo XIV. "Pope" is not automatically omitted as "Pope" is sometimes a personal name (see Pope (name)).
