Lead: Xilinx as a company and brand still exists under AMD

[edit]

Wouldn't it be more accurate for the lead to say that Xilinx is a wholly owned subsidiary of AMD rather than that it 'was' a company? The SEC filings cited in the article and various releases from AMD indicate that Xilinx will continue to survive as a wholly owned company, having its own tax filings and product lines etc. post-merger. As far as I can tell, the brand also hasn't been retired by AMD and for the time being, at least some products are still retaining the branding. If there are no objections to this in the next few days, I'll correct this on the article. Combustible Vulpex (talk) 07:07, 23 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

As of now, Xilinx still exists, and so does ATI Technologies, which has been operating as an AMD subsidiary.

However, by the end of 2024, Xilinx seemed to be in an inactive state. ~2026-10646-91 (talk) 13:13, 17 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Questionable statement in intro

[edit]

It also pioneered the first fabless manufacturing model.

Xilinx open its doors in 1984.  In 1978, the Western Design Center had set up shop as a fabless operation.  Based on that, Xilinx would not have pioneered the fabless model.

More history of product line

[edit]

The current page talks a lot about what is currently offered. Why not talk a bit about the history of both the parts and the tools.

There's not even a reference to the XC2064

Simulated Annealing for autorouting was sort of a big deal in the early days. And synthesis and place and route took a VERY long time on the typical PC/AT of the day. ~2026-52904-80 (talk) 23:40, 1 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
