I will summarize the coverage. I don't know, you would have to ask a grave dancer but I imagine that there are a broad variety of traditions across different cultures with the point normally being some combination of reverence, worship, remembrance, fear, envy, love, hate, respect, disrespect, and/or continuity of practice.
