Corn Oil Global Consumption at 3.38 million metric tons (https://www.insidermonkey.com/blog/8-most-consumed-edible-oils-in-the-world-1182015/), it seems to me that corn should be on the list. Increased consumption of omega-6 fats has been linked to higher rates of obesity, insulin resistance, hypertension, and coronary heart disease.[1] Evidence indicates that replacing dietary omega-6 fatty acids with plant and marine omega-3s may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and certain cancers due to the potential for omega-6 levels to inhibit the body's ability to synthesize and utilize omega-3s.[2] Consuming high amounts of omega-6 fatty acids may compromise cardiovascular health by displacing essential omega-3s as the two compete for the same enzymatic pathways, meaning excess omega-6 can directly interfere with omega-3 metabolism.[3] Maintaining a balanced dietary omega-6 to omega-3 ratio between 1:1 and 4:1 may optimally reduce inflammation and mitigate the risk of chronic conditions, including cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases.[4]
A balanced 1:1 omega-6 to omega-3 ratio is also correlated with the integrity and function of male sperm. Consequently, the highly skewed ratios typical of modern Western diets are heavily associated with impaired semen quality and increased rates of male infertility.[5] Animal models support these broader findings, demonstrating that a 1:1 ratio effectively decreases systemic and vascular inflammation in mice.[6]

For whatever reason when claims like "Claims that seed oils are unhealthy are not supported by scientific evidence" in the article were made, I thought that adding scientific evidence to the contrary would decrease bias and make for a better article. But I see now that I am wrong, and that there is no reliable consensus that a high omega-6 to omega-3 ratio is unhealthy, so citations that might point otherwise are dangerous to the plebes that might read the article if they are not MEDRS. Those sources are not reliable and most violate WP:MEDRS guidelines, for example James DiNicolantonio is a noted conspiracy theorist who thinks studies on mice are more valid than reviews of clinical trials. Carrot juice (talk) 21:06, 6 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
