Brackenridge vs. Willow Springs Golf Course

[edit]

I believe the listing of what course(s) the Texas Open was played on in the 1940's is incorrect. I realize that the information contained in the article is consistent with that found on several websites, including one associated with the Texas Open golf tournament itself, and even websites associated with the courses. However, there are numerous photos and books about the Texas Open as Snead, Hogan, and Nelson played the San Antonio tournament for many years, and the information contained in those photos and books is inconsistent with the article above.

Today I did a quick internet search of the newspaper articles describing the annual Texas Open tournament for each year in the 1940's. Here is what I found.

1949 Brackenridge https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=feST4K8J0scC&dat=19490214&printsec=frontpage&hl=en

1948 Brackenridge https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=feST4K8J0scC&dat=19480209&printsec=frontpage&hl=en

1947 Brackenridge https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=PZE8UkGerEcC&dat=19470210&printsec=frontpage&hl=en

1946 Brackenridge https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=feST4K8J0scC&dat=19460211&printsec=frontpage&hl=en

1945 Brackenridge https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1144&dat=19450129&id=61gbAAAAIBAJ&sjid=pEwEAAAAIBAJ&pg=4352,2899276&hl=en

1944 Brackenridge https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1144&dat=19440215&id=J1kbAAAAIBAJ&sjid=j0wEAAAAIBAJ&pg=5119,5122275&hl=en

1943 No Tourney

1942 Willow Springs https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1310&dat=19420215&id=8l0zAAAAIBAJ&sjid=legDAAAAIBAJ&pg=5619,866782&hl=en

1941 Willow Springs https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=feST4K8J0scC&dat=19410210&printsec=frontpage&hl=en

1940 Brackenridge https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=feST4K8J0scC&dat=19400209&printsec=frontpage&hl=en

In sum, I believe that the Texas Open was played at Willow Springs only in 1941 & 1942. It was played at Brackenridge in 1940, 1944-49. No tourney was played in 1943 due to WWII.
