"The ground forces are divided into five military districts. The Northwestern Military District, headquartered in Nukus, includes one motorized rifle brigade, also stationed there. The Southwestern Military District (Karshi) includes the 3rd (Navoi), 7th (Kokaity, Termez), 21st (Khairabad), 22nd (Sherabad), and 25th (Karshi) motorized rifle brigades, and another in Bukhara, as well as the 23rd artillery and 80th engineer brigades, stationed in Angora. The Central Military District (Jizzakh) includes the 13th artillery brigade (Kattakurgan) and a reserve motorized rifle brigade in Samarkand. Eastern Military District (Fergana): 17th Airborne Assault (Fergana), 37th and 34th Reserve Motorized Rifle (both Andijan), and 18th Artillery (Fergana) Brigades. Tashkent Military District: 4th Rifle Brigade, 15th Airborne Assault (cadre), motorized rifle, and artillery brigades. All are stationed in Chirchik. In addition, there are the 15th Engineering Brigade and the "Shield" Special Purpose Brigade."
