Hyphenation is a bit odd

[edit]

It's a little odd to have "uchi-deshi" and "soto-deshi" hyphenated, when most of the other words in this article referring to types of students are not hyphenated. There's really no need for this hyphen, which in technical terms could be said to show a morpheme boundary. Other morpheme boundaries in romanized Japanese words are virtually never notated this way (a good thing, as there could be considerable ambiguity in some cases as to exactly where the boundary lies, and we already have enough controversy on WP). It would be best to eliminate the hyphens, but I am unwilling to do it myself just now. Himatsu Bushi (talk) 08:33, 14 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
