Merge to Real-time computing

[edit]

According to a learned colleague of mine, it is impossible to discuss Time-utility function without Real-time computing. Since Time-utility function has been tagged for notability and lack of references for four years, a merger would also be appropriate. Bearian (talk) 21:22, 4 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

It should be merged and this page redirected to Real-time computing. Please do that. This page should never have been created. 71.169.179.188 (talk) 05:47, 5 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Oppose: Time-utility function isn't a term specific to real-time computing only; please have a look at Adaptive Time-utility Function Scheme for Downlink Packet Scheduling in IEEE 802.16e/WiMAX Networks, for example.  Dsimic (talk | contribs) 05:57, 5 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
The opposition is correct--there are various uses of time/utility functions in non-real-time contexts. I am soon going to replace this stub page with a much improved one, including in-line citations, references, etc. E Douglas Jensen (talk) 13:10, 10 June 2017 (UTC)E. Douglas JensenReply
I have begun a full rewrite to replace the stub. It is still a work in progress, especially while I learn the wikitext and assure stylistic compliance. The new text makes clear that TUF/UA is used both for real-time (including but not limited to computing) systems--but in an entirely different and more general way that most of the traditional real-time computing community does not subscribe to--and for non-real-time systems in which utility is an application-specific concept (such as mission effectiveness) to be optimized (not timeliness such as meeting time constraints such as deadlines).  Preceding unsigned comment added by E Douglas Jensen (talkcontribs) 23:47, 3 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
