Error in info box - appeal is to Full Federal Court not HCA

The info box currently says the case has been appealed to the High Court of Australia. This is incorrect, the appeal (which will commence hearings on Aug 4) is to the Full Federal Court Jonnosan (talk) 08:19, 1 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

I've gone ahead and corrected the reference directly, hope that wasnt inappropriate Jonnosan (talk) 10:39, 1 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Originally GIGGLE didn't exclude trans women

[edit]

I have a reply to a google play review of the app that is written by the company responding to verification issues which says trans women are 1000% welcome" it wasn't until possibly Grover saw an opportunity for Notoriety that the policy to exclude trans women was changed Camboyle2000 (talk) 09:24, 26 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

WP:PSTS – best to only use if it's reported in a reliable secondary source. Nil🥝 05:50, 27 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Cis

[edit]

I dont like cricket I love it, welcome to Wikipedia, but please note that this reversion is not the way we do things here. You made a bold edit and I reverted it, so now we need a discussion. Have a read of WP:BRD and WP:ONUS. Note that ONUS is a policy. The onus is on you to establish a consensus for your change before reverting it back in.

Now to repeat why I removed your addition of the word "cis" to that sentence:

  1. Cis is slang and cisgender is specialist vocabulary. Wikipedia is a worldwide encyclopaedia, and the word is not common currency in all forms of English used by the readers who engage here. Even in countries where it is better understood, it is much more likely to be understood only by those who already have read quite widely on issues around transgender people, and this is a subset of the population. Almost certainly a minority (albeit an educated one). We are not writing for them alone. You may think everyone understands it, but they do not. Not even close.
  2. We could, of course, write it in full and say "cisgender" and wikilink it. I oppose that too in this case, because it is simply unnecessary. The sentence you are adding it to reads: "designed as a social networking platform for women that excluded trans women". It is repetitive to say "cis women" as that is clearly implied by the exclusion of trans women. If we added cisgender there, we can delete the following clause about trans exclusion. Concision is important, and my judgement is that stressing the trans exclusion is the important information you want this sentence to land on.
  3. There is also the point that it was clearly originally launched without any such exclusion of trans women. It was launched, and for a while existed, as a platform for all women, whether cisgender or transgender, but then the policy was changed and it became trans exclusionary. Your edit obscures that.

So no, I don't think we should have that there, and per WP:ONUS I'll remove it again now. Please leave it out unless and until there is consensus for inclusion. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 16:35, 10 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

I don't see any intrinsic problem with adding it as clarification where it is helpful. The question is whether it is helpful in that particular place. I see your point about redundancy and I think that you are correct that it doesn't help the reader to understand that particular sentence. That doesn't mean that it, or rather "cisgender", is a word that we need to avoid generally.
I agree that "cisgender" is preferable to "cis" in formal writing, at least on first use, and that the word should be linked when initially used for the benefit of anybody who is unsure of what it means. It's not so much that is it is particularly specialist vocabulary. It's not, at least no more so than "transgender". It is just that there is some misinformation circulating (off wiki) about what it means which would make linking it helpful for any readers who might have been confused by that.
So, in summary, it may be that "cisgender" might belong somewhere in the article but probably not there. --DanielRigal (talk) 17:14, 10 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
