Wiki Education Assignment UCF: Work Plan

Introduction

Will expand the overview explaining what a tibial shaft fracture is and big picture points.

Anatomy

Will review the relevant anatomy and provide context for fracture patterns and treatment.

Epidemiology

 summarize how often tibial shaft fractures occur and which patients are most affected.

Mechanism of Injury
Compare and contrast high energy and low energy mechanisms

Classification
Discuss how tibial shaft fractures are classified. Fracture location, pattern, and whether the fracture is open or closed.

Clinical Presentation
Typical symptoms and physical exam findings seen in patients with tibial shaft fractures. Some of the info from signs and symptoms can be moved here.

Diagnosis
Will discuss how tibial shaft fractures are evaluated, including using imaging.

Management
Will list treatment options, including nonoperative and operative approaches. Talk about when each is preferred or considered.

Complications
talk about complications and associated injurird. Might throw in some meta analyses here. I know a couple relevant ones already.

Prognosis
I plan to include general information on healing and recovery

References
Will add good secondary sources such as review articles, textbooks, and clinical guidelines

Introduction

-Suggest fixing that tibial shaft fractures do not have to be the proximal third of the tibia (aka can occur anywhere along the shaft)

-Would be beneficial to add 1-2 sentences to the intro on key things to note

Anatomy

-Excellent section that helps bring understanding on the nature of these fractures

-Perhaps consider adding one sentence on where these fractures are found (lower extremity; the diaphysis of the tibia) for readers that skip the intro and go straight to anatomic location

Epidemiology

-Great job elaborating on the frequency of the fractures and who is affected

-Consider moving last three sentences to classification section

Mechanism of Injury

-Very nice change; easy to understand the difference between high and low energy mechanisms

Classification

-Greatly expanded the classification of these fractures, which is beneficial to the reader

-Suggest adding one sentence explaining what the Gustilo and Anderson classification is used for

Clinical Presentation

-Appreciated adding this section as it helps readers understand the importance of performing a proper evaluation

-Should incorporate common signs/symptoms (pain, swelling) here

Diagnosis

-Would be helpful to talk about the use of imaging (like which initial imaging depending on presentation)

Management

-Very informative in discussion of nonoperative vs operative including when each should be considered

-Appreciated X-ray image that was added to show a fracture post-surgery

Complications

-Nice section listing the different complications and explaining how they occur

Prognosis

-This was incorporated into the treatment section and was clear to follow
