I think not only redlinking the subject of this mention (he has no other links at all on any WikiProject) but just having this subject be a part of this article when he has pretty abhorrent racial views is not something we should encourage, @Czello:, and we can easily find another more appropriate expert in the field that's been quoted here and the article isn't lesser for it. I reverted on those grounds; as this isn't my topic area I'm tapping out and yielding to someone who knows it, but I just wanted to explain why I reverted the line and that it's unlikely the subject will now ever meet WP:N for anything but his terrible views from here on out. This strikes me as a WP:RGW case, especially given that as far as I can see it's a single, relatively recent accusation by one media outlet (one whose reliability on politics there is no consensus about). I don't think dismissing him as a source entirely based on this accusation is appropriate, and it's not Wikipedia's place to say we should or shouldn't be "encouraging" people. If he were talking about the subject of race I could understand caution, but this is about geopolitics. — Czello ^(music) 07:02, 7 August 2023 (UTC)

Thucydides text and translation

For those who want to know, the words quoted are Thucydides, History, 1.23.6. I have added the exact translation given by Richard Crawley, as cited in our footnote, so that any reader can find it by a word search. Allison's translation (his own? or from some other edition?) is different, but quite accurate. Andrew Dalby 14:22, 15 May 2026 (UTC)
