Branching out

Hello Wikipedians. I must admit that I am personally interested in this article as time goes on, as the "mall takeover" or "teen takeover" seems like a distinctly 2026 American phenomenon that is just begging for a sociologist's lens. Unfortunately, that time has not yet come, and although there is ample news reporting on it currently, there is little currently tying the term to related concepts without violating WP:OR. As such, it probably fails WP:NTEMP, but I don't have a crystal ball. This is a term probably tieable to other youth gatherings in public (Nicholas Dagen-Bloom's 2001 Suburban Alchemy talks about the role that youths in town centers in Reston, Virginia and Columbia, Maryland had in the 1970s with policing during economic downturn), but I will reiterate that I cannot make that guess myself.

Jax 0677, this article probably should have stayed a draft for a few more months. Do you plan on improving this article? I will add some information that I've gleaned, but it is not much, and certainly not enough for Wikipedia's standards. This is a good observation. I think we should propose a merge to that article, but then the Valley Stream example will probably be the most notable. Hopefully they're willing to adopt a version of the terminology. Ornov Ganguly TALK 01:58, 11 March 2026 (UTC)
