Key people section

Dear Wikipedians,

I have done some editing in the key people section, trying to give T. V. Narendran hyperlinks for his positions such as CEO and MD. But unfortunately I might have caused a problem in the section as it is showing editing text...

Request for review of reverted edits by ClueBot NG

I made edits to clean up redundancies, tone down promotional phrasing. ClueBot reverted them, but I believe the changes are in line with neutrality and verifiability. TCIL History of The Tinplate Company of India Ltd.

In January 1920, the Burmah Oil and The Tata Iron & Steel Company (TISCO) jointly incorporated The Tinplate Company of India Limited (TCIL) This part is not correct. Please research and change. As far as I know, it was a subsidiary of Shaw Wallace & Company at 4, Bankshall Street, Calcutta till the Tatas acquired it in 1986. My father worked there in a senior post and that is how I know. ~2025-36538-06 (talk) 14:27, 26 November 2025 (UTC)

Peacock / criticism section cleanup (February 2026)

Cleanup addressing the {{Peacock}} (January 2026) and {{criticism section}} (June 2023) tags. This edit also completes the kind of cleanup that Miko Gagarin attempted in October 2025 (removing redundancies and promotional phrasing) but which was reverted by ClueBot NG.

Promotional sections removed

• "Sub-Brands of Tata Steel" — entire section removed. A numbered list of 17 brand names sourced to tatasteel.com. This is a product catalogue per WP:NOTCATALOGUE and has no place in an encyclopedic article.
• "Social and Infrastructure Impact" — entire section removed. Two items: slag supply for a highway and honouring sanitation workers. Both are routine corporate activities sourced to single Times of India wire items. Not significant for an article about one of the world's largest steel producers.

Criticism section restructured

• "Controversies" renamed to "Environmental concerns"
• {{criticism section}} tag removed
• Bullet-point formatting converted to three prose paragraphs: (1) Dhamra Port joint venture and criticism from Greenpeace et al.; (2) specific ecological concerns (Bhitarkanika, turtles, horseshoe crabs); (3) company's IUCN response and 2011 port opening
• All seven original references preserved; no content removed

Other fixes

• Facilities section: added introductory sentence for context (bare list had no lead-in)
• Amalgamation heading: fixed spacing (===Amalgamation=== → === Amalgamation ===) per MOS
• Sports section ref: truncated an overlong reference title (original title was the entire article text pasted as a single field)
• Shareholders section: added {{Update}} tag — text says "as of 29 September 2023" but the ref points to a 2018 financial report

TCIL history note

An IP editor raised concerns (November 2025) about the TCIL founding history, claiming it was a Shaw Wallace subsidiary until 1986 rather than a Burmah Oil/TISCO joint venture from 1920. The current article text is supported by two published sources: Corley (1983), A History of the Burmah Oil Company, pp. 274–275, and Karunakar (2012), Corporate Champions, p. 260. Per WP:RS, published academic and book sources take precedence over personal recollection. No change made, but noted here for transparency. If it's incorrect, the article needs a source.

Tag changes

• {{criticism section}} — removed. Controversies converted to prose, section renamed.
• {{Update}} — added to Shareholders section (stale data).
• Existing {{Use Indian English}}, {{Use dmy dates}}, {{Citation needed}} tags retained.
