Bitumen is not treacle

The article reads "Miners struck a gushing spring of natural bitumen, a black treacle-like substance" which is clearly nonsense. Bitumen may perhaps have the appearance or consistency of treacle but by no stretch of the imagination can it be said to be treacle-like.
