Size of Tanner Moor

Article currently indicates size as 120 hectares. I know nothing about this part of Austria but surely this is not correct? 120 hectares is only about 300 acres, like a medium sized single farm in the UK.

I think more likely it should be (at least) 120 square KM, this also seems quiote small...

The data, including Natura 2000, indicates that Tanner Moor protected area is 122.3 hectares, 1.223 km² or just over 300 acres. Farms may be large in England, but after the American Civil War veterans were given "40 acres and a mule" for their farm. As the plains of the western United States were openned up, this was increased to a homestead of 160 acres, that is, 1/4 of a square mile. Modern agrobusiness is a different story. It does appear that the protected area of Tanner Moor is small, but not insignificant. The larger area (Freiwald) in which Tanner Moor sits is 35,000 hectares, and is 65% forest and meadow, and 35% agriculturally used. How large do you expect moors to be in Austria? Most parts of the county are quite civilized so we don't have space for bigger moors any more ;-) 120 hectar (or 1.2 quare kilometers) should be the correct size. --Wirthi

Thanks for confirming the article is correct! It just seemed like a possible typo to me. The UK is not a very large country but we have plenty of areas of moorland much larger than that e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_York_Moors - 1,436 km².4wd 21:53, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
