Tangential speed is equivalent to speed. Tangential velocity is equivalent to velocity. By the Frenet equations, the tangent vector is in exactly the same direction as the velocity, hence the tangent velocity is exactly equivalent to the velocity. Hence, the magnitude of the tangent velocity, that is, the tangent speed, is equivalent to the magnitude of the velocity, that is, the speed. Hence, the tangent speed is equivalent to the speed.

This is intuitively obvious: the tangent speed of the car is how fast it is going in its direction of motion. Nwparris (talk) 15:09, 18 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
