I think the point is that this is not the only meaning of "symbol" in programming. Indeed, it's not even the most common meaning in my experience. Probably the first sense I think of is along the lines of "an identifier for which a declaration exists", referenced in Symbol table. I can imagine that, in some programming contexts, it may mean a non-alphanumeric token such as an operator or punctuator. Maybe there are other relevant meanings.
But the best course of action seems to be to keep this article (possibly retitled) focusing on the meaning it focuses on, and add a hatnote linking either to the other programming meanings or back to Symbol (disambiguation). — Smjg (talk) 15:53, 18 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
