Under "Core types", what is the third core type?

No mention of tapewounds

[edit]

Could someone add this to the article. They're mainly for bass guitar but La Bella offers two types for "jazz guitar". And maybe someone should add "half-rounds" to the halfwound description. I've seen a lot of people refer to them as such & that is what D'Addario calls their line of halves. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:300:4300:D540:2C27:C4B3:9D90:9DD (talk) 05:48, 15 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Where's all the gauge info gone?

[edit]

"the sample data below comes from D'Addario string charts for regular, round-wound, nickel-plated strings." There is no sample data. The next chapter on bass strings also has a gauge reference and then there's nothing. Please fix. Guitar string gauge gets directed to this page. 108.204.18.240 (talk) 01:54, 13 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Agreed. This page used to actually be useful and informative. Flippin' deletionists. 14.202.113.112 (talk) 03:15, 5 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Looks like it was octagonal, not considered notable or well enough sourced to keep. Just plain Bill (talk) 02:57, 16 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

Possible addition to String corrosion and prevention

[edit]

COI disclosure: I am affiliated with Cleartone Strings, so I'm proposing this here rather than editing the article directly.

I noticed the String corrosion and prevention section discusses different approaches to coated strings. Would it be appropriate to include Cleartone as an example of a thin string-treatment approach, as distinct from some conventional polymer-coated strings?

A possible neutral addition could be:

“Cleartone Strings uses a thin chemical treatment applied to the completed string as a method of corrosion protection. Independent testing published in Bass Gear Magazine characterized Cleartone's coating as thin and electrically conductive, distinguishing it from several non-conductive polymer-coated strings.”

There are independent sources discussing the process and comparison:

  • U.S. Manufacturing Report — Cleartone Strings
  • Bass Gear Magazine — coated-string comparison

I'm happy to defer to uninvolved editors on whether this distinction is relevant to the section and on the appropriate wording. ~~~~ ScottS1998 (talk) 16:33, 28 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
