While it’s true that many - in fact, probably most - developments in high jumping came from the United States, anyone outside the US runs into the age-old problem of imperial measurements, which have never been ratified as world records and are useless to non-Americans. Also the claim that an American re-introduced the straddle in veteran competition totally ignores the almost unbroken career of Thomas Zacharias, who has held multiple world age records in veteran competition using the straddle technique exclusively.
