New Map

I wish to change the map (The current one doesnt have right proportians, shows territory beyond the sutlej (other then cis-sutlej territory), places the cities in wrong spots, borders are shifted downwards, as well as other errors in the map such as the yusufzai territory being fully under sikh rule. change the map to the year 1842 (Sikhs fully aquired ladakh and therefore there greatest extent) I have created a map for this reason, please look it over. I have the sources in the description.

Support, user has cited their references for their map in the image's description on Wikimedia Commons. However, it would be nice if more recent sources are used (if available) to further support the cartographic depiction. MaplesyrupSushi (talk) 21:30, 9 February 2026 (UTC)

Hey thanks for the feedback, I can find some more modern written sources that maintain the boundaries that I have set up based on the maps, J.S Grewals, Sikhs of the Punjab relatively uphold the territories shown with a few outliers in which when shown in more detailed records (The Panjab In 1839-40 Selections From The Punjab Akhbars) which confirm said territories to be part of the extent. Since some areas are shown in maps but not in sources I have dashed them as to not possibly show a map makers mistake that stuck but still assume that these areas may of just not been mentioned when overshadowed by neighbouring lands (Example: Settlements belonging to the Khost region in modern day Afghanistan such as Bukkr Khel, Bungee, Bulameen, Zeran are very often shown in the Sikh Empire by contemporary maps, but no such mention of the Khost valley is given by written sources but in these same maps they are written under the regions of Bannu or sometimes Dour) Proper2oo (talk) 06:19, 10 February 2026 (UTC)

@Proper2oo - Wow, much better! Also, I believe the Emirate of Afghanistan paid tribute to the Sikhs after the Tripartite Treaty of 1838, Bahawalpur State is also recorded as having paid tribute to the Sikhs at different times, and the Talpur Emirs of Sindh paid tribute at various points. It warrants further investigation on if the above paid tribute in around 1842. Just thought you might find it interesting and could possibly improve the map. Yes, Afghanistan (Shah Shujas Government) did pay tribute from the years of 1839-42, though im unsure if ill add it.

I guess it may be contested by other editors so I understand the apprehension but if they paid tribute, then they are tributaries. The reason is my map includes Gilgit that means it would be dated to late 1842-1843, while shah shuja was deposed in April 1842. I may change the map to be 1843 as that’s more in-line with what the map is projecting. Proper2oo (talk) 22:39, 11 February 2026 (UTC)

History section

The section on history allots huge chunk to prior history (before 1799) and cis-Sutlej states which appear to be only tangentially related. I plan to summarise the background, and expand the period between 1799 and 1849.
