According to the How To Sell magazine's May 1927 edition, Sigma Tau Sigma was an honor fraternity organized in 1919 for "Direct Salesmen". It started with around 50 members headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio. E.H. Foote was their first elected President and remained in that position through 1927. It was organized by a number of college students in the US and Canada who represented over six companies by selling books by subscription. To be eligible, the salesman must have sold by subscription and delivered at least $2,500 worth of books. The individual had to have conducted their business in an honorable and upright manner, and must be recommended by the company by whom he was employed. The Sigma Tau Sigma key was of solid gold. It was in the shape of a pyramid, in front of which stood the silent sphinx representing the secret part of the order. On one side of the pyramid were the Greet letters, which stood for the words "Success through Service," which was the central idea of the order. ~2026-39634-89 (talk) 16:58, 13 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
There were often different societies with the same Greek letters. At the same time, there was also a regional sorority in New Jersey that also had the same name. If warranted, there is often a disambiguation page to help avoid confusion. However, it does not look like the sales society was well known; at least, I cannot find it in Newspapers.com.
