Designation "Shoshenq C"

[edit]

The designation of this historical person, the High Priest of Amun who was the son of Sekhemkheperre Osorkon I and Maatkare B, as "Shoshenq C" is erroneous, contradicting Egyptological practice. "Shoshenq C" is the designation of a High Priest of Ptah at Memphis, who lived at about the same time. The present Shoshenq did not really have a lettered designation, in part because he was long considered to be the future King "Shoshenq II," something now considered increasingly unlikely (his own descendants did not reference him as king). In newer Egyptological literature, e.g., the works of Dodson and others, the present Shoshenq is designated "Shoshenq Q." The article should be renamed. I have now edit and renamed the article accordingly. StefThrax (talk) 17:52, 9 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
