It might be worth mentioning if it can be referenced, that the connector will remove the Islands dependency on oil generated electricity eg http://www.shetland.gov.uk/splan/ene.htm also for exceptions see http://www.ofgem.gov.uk/Networks/ElecDist/Policy/Documents1/SHEPD_NINES_CONSULTATION.pdf section 1.16 p.9 Oranjblud (talk) 13:25, 9 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

I can't find it right now, but one of these background documents explained that due to be being built as single circuit connection (for economic reasons to reduce building and transmission cost), the diesel generation facilities should remain in use as reserve capacities in the case of transmission interruption. http://www2.env.uea.ac.uk/energy/energy_links/transmission/tnei-grid-study-june-07.pdf says at the page 37 that to avoid replacement existing generation [due to nearing end of economic life] interconnector needs two independent circuit.
