Canada

I took out references to Canada. The content doesn't all apply to all Canadian provinces, in my view. For instance, in Alberta, a school operated by a Separate Catholic school district, would not be called a "public school" (even though the district and school share many attributes of a "public" school). Ultimately, it would be good to mention Canada, but only if its done more clearly. I don't see the point of specifically mentioning Canada, unless the article discusses Canada specifically. Other countries with school districts aren't mentioned by name, and there's no special reason to mention Canada. --rob 04:31, 14 October 2005 (UTC)

Limited to USA

As the tags on the article suggest, this article seems to essentially cover school districts in the USA and only in the USA. Reading the discussions above, I wonder if the best approach would be, rather than to expand this article to a worldwide view, to simply retitle it to School district (United States) or something similar, and cover equivalents in other countries in other articles. Funding of School Districts

I suggest to include more information about the funding of school districts in the US, e.g. what value are school taxes based on (e.g. a fixed proportion of income?), different tax rates within states and among states, proportional or progressive rates, differences expenses per inhabitant and per pupil, maybe also about the situation in senior-citizen areas like Sun City. If we do that, we shouldn't forget state and federal aid. In Maryland, for example, state aid accounts for 48% of school funding overall and 70% or more in some political subdivisions. Federal aid is much smaller but non-negligible. Doctor Whom (talk) 16:50, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

Zoning or Assignment to Primary Schools

The concept that "residents are zoned" and assigned to some particular elementary school is not something the term "school district" covers, but a reference to this approach should be inserted. Meerwind7 (talk) 18:34, 16 November 2018 (UTC)

La Habra will be inheriting the Anaheim Union High School District's K-12 Curriculum. School redistricting

Should the article be merged with school district? It overlaps (WP:MERGE) and be adequately explained in this article. I think I could've just done it (WP:BOLD) but I'm quite inexperienced regarding this stuff. {{u|Abillionradios}} {Static} 00:53, 20 October 2021 (UTC)

Since school redistricting has more to do with the operation of the schools themselves and with their catchment areas than with school districts as a level of local government, I think we should at least consider merging that article with either State school or Catchment area instead. I made an edit to the page recently, changing the short description--previously it was one about eating feces.
