I've read that Lindbergh's first choice for a transatlantic crossing was a Bellanca, but Bellanca wouldn't provide the airplane if Lindbergh was to be the sole pilot, so he passed it up and went to Ryan.Cd195 (talk) 16:25, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

That is correct. The Bellanca ended up being the Columbia which Clarence Chamberlin planned to use to compete for the Orteig Prize. When Lindbergh won that in May, Chamberlin and the plane's owner, Charles Albert Levine (as passenger) flew non-stop to Germany in June instead. (Centpacrr (talk) 20:57, 9 February 2009 (UTC))Reply
