AOU checklist

[edit]

According to the FORTY-FIRST SUPPLEMENT TO THE AMERICAN ORNITHOLOGISTS' UNION CHECK-LIST OF NORTH AMERICAN BIRDS Auk: 114(3): July-Septembers 1997: 542-552

p. 97. The southern Andean Oxyura ferruginea (Eyton),Andean Duck,is separated as a species from O. jamaicensis, and the account for the latter is modified accordingly. This follows studies by Siegfried (1976) and Fjeldsa (1986).

So I am not sure that Oxyura ferruginea should redirect to here.Open2universe 00:45, 31 January 2006 (UTC) special body parts and skills for ruddy ducks— —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.126.151.251 (talk) 00:37, 25 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

[edit]

I revised some of the descriptive copy and identified the source of the new description (allaboutbirds.org) I also added an inline citation (from http://avibase.bsc-eoc.org) to support the statement about Oxyura ferruginea being considered a separate species by some and a sub-species by others. I can offer nothing to support or refute the unsigned comment questioning whether ferruginea belongs on this page or not. Chris Madden : Talk 22:51, 29 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
