I am a paid editor for Vizlegal (disclosed on my user page), so I'm requesting this rather than making it.
The article is out of date. It says he "is a judge of the High Court" and "is the chairperson of the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission", and both infobox terms are open.
- GSOC ceased to exist on 2 April 2025, when the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024 was commenced and Fiosrú (the Office of the Police Ombudsman) was established. GSOC's final annual report, covering 1 January – 1 April 2025, says: "On Wednesday, 2 April 2025 the Minister for Justice signed the commencement orders for the Policing Security and Community Safety Act 2024, which repealed the Garda Síochána Act 2005, and brought Fiosrú into being." Its attendance table for that period lists "Mr Justice Rory MacCabe – Chairperson".[1]
- He has since retired from the bench. On 22 April 2026 the Department of Justice's Immigration Service Delivery wrote: "Retired Judge Rory MacCabe is currently serving as the Member of the Single Person Committee of Inquiry (SPC)."[2] I haven't found a source for the exact date of his retirement.
Suggested changes:
- Infobox:
term_end1 = 1 April 2025for the GSOC chair. Leave the High Courtterm_endblank until a retirement date is sourced, or add a note. - Lead: something like "Rory P. MacCabe is a retired Irish judge who was a judge of the High Court from January 2022 and the last chairperson of the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission, from January 2022 until it was replaced by Fiosrú on 2 April 2025."
- Optionally, a sentence noting that he serves as the Member of the Single Person Committee of Inquiry, citing the second source.
