Thomas Smith
[edit]Could Smith's father be this Thomas Smith, author of the snappily titled "The Miner’s Guide, being a Description and Illustration of a Chart of Sections of the principal Mines of Coal and Ironstone in the Counties of Stafford, Salop, Warwick, and Durham" (1836, 2nd edition 1846)? The frontispiece lists him as a "mine and land agent" from "Sandy Fields near Sedgley", the "obedient and obliged servant" of James Foster of Stourton Castle. Ten years later he is stated to be a "land agent" at "Horsely Heath, Tipton". Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 15:57, 15 June 2019 (UTC)
- I have recently received an email from a descendant of Thomas Smith Snr, saying
"I believe the Thomas Smith (1778 - 1853) you're asking about is the BROTHER of Richard Smith (1783-1868), not the father. Their father is also Thomas Smith but born in 1747, died 1808"
