I would like to see the sources that claim he was a member in the NSDAP. From all I know, and I'm close to the family, he was not a member of the Nazi party as claimed in the article. Membership does not necessarily come with high Luftwaffe rank.

However, I know that these memberships were not readily admitted. If someone who wrote the article could comment, I'd be happy, otherwise I'd be inclined to delete that claim.

And I would like to see a source for "his relatively limited role". This is an opinion, and AFAIK wiki articles should contain facts. Opinions should be referenced, not just casually tossed around, especially when they concern a person who issued orders which beyond any dispute constitute war crimes. Also, calling this paragraph 'Controversy' makes no sense - Stahel's orders are well evidenced, the only controversy is the fact that Stahel's family is using his death prior to facing a tribunal to make some waves. First name spelling is incorrect!

War criminal

Is there any evidence for him being judged as a war criminal? The article doesn't cite any sources for this.

The German version of the page has sources on this, list that he was accused of being one but not that he was judged to be one. The source is Vasilij Stepanowitsch Christoforow, Vladimir Gennadjewitsch Makarow, Matthias Uhl: Verhört. Since he wasn't judged to be a war criminal it doesn't make sense to mention him as such especially not in the first sentence of the article IMHO. Thaodan (talk) 05:49, 28 February 2025 (UTC)
