Never just geometric patterns? C19 also?
[edit]Not enough stress is placed on the characteristic element that the imagery must include certain complete images, not just geometric patterns. See A. Fein:
- "... qallaline, painted tile murals, often depicting vases with flowering branches or representations of mosques framed by ornate geometric patterns. These tiles were commonly used to decorate elite Tunisian residences and mosque architecture in the 18th and 19th centuries."[1]
Or is he wrong?
Also his dating - 18th & 19th c. - is it off by one century? Or was the style still widely used in the 19th c.? If so, this should be added.
