I don't think the Act was amended to include Scotland, I think that for Scotland an entirely new Act had to be passed - Public Libraries Act (Scotland) 1853 would have been the title. HarryAlffa 15:36, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

On the UK Parliament's Archive Catalogue () a search for "public libraries" for 1853 brings up "Public General Act, 16 & 17 Victoria I, c. 101" which is described as "An Act to extend the Public Libraries Act, 1850, to Ireland and Scotland." So, an entirely new Act passed to amend the original Act to include Scotland?

Was Edward Edwards the librarian involved with the Act the same person as Edward Edwards the leader of the Printworkers Union and chartist? From the biography of Edward Edwards you have it wouldn't seem so, though since that is a 19th century biographer I guess they might have censored that aspect out.
