If I remember correctly, (I was brought up in neighbouring Haverton Hill), Port Clarence is the side nearest to the Transporter Bridge section of the River Tees, and High Clarence the side nearest to Haverton Hill, further downstream. Not sure what formal and/or informal boundaries separates Port and High Clarence and the extent to which any formal boundary lines have shifted through time due to local government reorganisations. Maybe, originally, Port Clarence was the earlier development, based firstly on the shipping of coal via the railway, and High Clarence, a later development, based around shipbuilding. It would be interesting to know where the Clarence Railway terminated, I guess the railway might have terminated near to where the Transporter Bridge was built. It would be interesting to hear from anyone who has a better knowledge of the local history, as these are only my thoughts on this interesting question. --Another berean (talk) 12:17, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Port Clarence

According to them who live locally there is Port Clarence and the boundary to High Clarence is the School, called High Clarence primary school, then the boundary to Haverton Hill is where the old public house The Queens Head used to be. ~2026-14746-57 (talk) 09:44, 8 March 2026 (UTC)
